Moving schools and transition
Moving from primary to secondary is an exciting time, but for many children it can also be daunting - a new building, new teachers & new classmates. Use our free activities to support children with this transition.
The activities aim to support children to:
- Discuss their feelings and potential worries
- Help children to think about their good qualities and feel more confident in who they are
- Look at the positive and negative aspects of change
- Identify people who can support them in their new setting
Printable activities for parents:
- Feelings Chart - Use the chart to start a discussion about how your children are feeling
- All About Me - This activity is designed to help children to think about their good qualities and feel more confident in who they are
- The Feelings Diary - This can be a great way to spark conversations about what’s happened that day at school
- Good and Bad - Changes can have both positive and negative aspects
- My Circle of Help - It’s important that children know who they can turn to if they have a problem
- Introduce Me to Your Friend - This activity is a good one to reflect on what makes a good friend, and how friends can help and support each other
