The Big Give Christmas Challenge
We were delighted that Partnership for Children was selected to take part in The Big Give Christmas Challenge 2016, the UK’s largest matched giving campaign, on Tuesday 29th November #GivingTuesday.
With your help we raised over £12,000 to make a specially adapted version of Zippy’s Friends available to special schools nationwide so that children with learning disabilities can benefit from positive mental health.
Donations received online during The Big Give Christmas Challenge will benefit children with a range of complex and diverse learning difficulties. Children will learn social, coping and communication skills and will grow up being better able to understand and articulate their feelings. We know there is a huge need for programmes such as Zippy’s Friends for Special Schools. Children with learning disabilities are at great risk of developing mental health problems during their life. A lack of coping and social skills can impact on relationships and restrict access to opportunities in society, leading to depression, loneliness and frustration and a lack of self-confidence. Yet a survey of special schools in England noted that ‘mental health and emotional wellbeing was one of their most pressing challenges.’ As one teacher told us; ‘This is what our parents have been looking for, something which gives children life skills’.
