Les amis de Zippy is being trialled in Haiti as part of a wider mental health promotion project run by TELUQ, the Distance Learning section of the University of Quebec at Montreal. The project, funded by Grand Challenges Canada, will aim to create a network of Haitian community services to offer psychosocial services and to oppose domestic violence and abuse, along with the potential mental health problems that these cause.
The project will focus on Grand-Goâve, a semi-rural region of 130,000 inhabitants, and will collaborate with Grosame, a local citizens’ group already trained in these issues. A small number of teachers will be trained to run Les amis de Zippy in schools, and the project will be evaluated after two years.
The inclusion of Les amis de Zippy in the project was made possible through the cooperation of our Canadian partner organisation, CRISE-UQAM, who will provide the training of trainers and teachers.
