Iceland

Iceland is the smallest of the 11 countries in which Zippy’s Friends is running, but the programme is expanding steadily, with the number of teachers rising from three to 38 in the past year.

The Public Health Institute of Iceland oversees Vinir Zippys, as part of its Mental Health Promotion Project. Since 2000, the Institute has made mental health promotion a priority under the slogan ‘There is no health without mental health’, and has introduced a number of different projects to promote Icelanders’ mental health across the lifespan and in different settings.

After a small start in the capital, Reykjavik, Zippy’s Friends is beginning to spread across the country.
