Zippy's Friends is helping children in three major cities across China. In a culture where education has traditionally focused heavily on academic performance, the chance to promote children's emotional wellbeing is being welcomed by teachers and parents.
The first classes were in Hong Kong in 2004-05. The programme then spread to Shanghai in 2006, and was launched in the capital, Beijing, in October 2008. More than 50,000 children have been enrolled so far, and the numbers are growing every year.
In all three cities, Zippy's Friends is funded by HSBC, through The Hongkong Bank Foundation.
