New evaluation study

Resilience and Attainment

Can schools develop children’s ‘character’ as well as their attainment?

Could improving children’s skills in PSHE also help them do better in school?

These are some of the questions we hope to answer through a new evaluation of Zippy’s Friends funded by the Education Endowment Foundation.

Over 80 schools in five areas of England are taking part in the trial. Schools in Cheshire, Croydon, Dudley, Lincolnshire and Nottingham have completed pre-tests as part of the evaluation conducted by a team of researchers from Queen’s University Belfast.

Those allocated to the intervention group are delivering the Zippy’s Friends programme in the academic year 2016-17 while those in the control group will continue with “business as usual”. All schools and children will complete additional testing at the end of the year. We anticipate the results in May 2018.
