Apple’s Friends is a school-based programme which helps young children to develop coping and social skills. It is designed for 7-9 year olds and builds on the success of Zippy’s Friends, a similar programme for 5-7 year olds.
Apple’s Friends is taught by specially trained teachers and is not available to individual parents, but of course parents can do a lot to support the programme and to ensure that children use their new skills outside the classroom. Each of the six modules has a Home Activity for children to do at home with a parent or carer.

You can also read about Zippy’s Friends, one of the world’s most successful health promotion programmes for young children. It is running in schools and kindergartens in 30 countries and has already helped more than one million children.
If your child has already completed Zippy’s Friends, taking part in Apple’s Friends will reinforce their coping and social skills. Independent evaluation has shown that doing both programmes can produce ‘a significant positive impact on children’s social, emotional and behavioural outcomes.’
However, children can still do Apple’s Friends even if they have not done Zippy’s Friends, and teachers and parents report that children really enjoy the programme’s stories and activities.
